Welcome to ASPipes. We're still growing, adding links and other material. There are new shapes going up on the shapes chart, and your ASP web monkeys are working on getting a proper IRC chat room up. For now, the chat room has been taken down, in preparation for this. If you have any questions, we have a contact form.

Call for Bios: There is always a need for more bios. This is your chance to put a face to a name, and let the ASP community know a bit more about you. If you want your mug up on the site, just send your bio as an email to the webmaster, along with a photo, as an attachment.

Here Now! A series of articles by Bill Burney on pipe shapes.  On the left, click on "Pipe Info", then "Essays".  Two are there now, more to come.

This is a critical time for the hobby of pipe smoking in the USA. H.R. 4439 (The Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010) will not only impose a serious tax on pipe tobacco, to match the crippling tax already imposed on RYO tobacco, but will likely drive a good percentage of US pipe shops and blenders out of business. This bill was introduced into the House to combat the practice that many RYO blenders have been driven to out of desperation, of labeling RYO tobacco as pipe tobacco. It actually has nothing at all to do with pipes! Please write to your representative to state your feelings on this bill. There is also an online petition that you can sign, which already has around 18,000 signatures. We're looking at the extinction of a culture that stretches back to the time of Shakespeare. (Yes, Shakespeare smoked VA in a clay.) You might want to remind them that, even before this nation was built on the automobile, it was built on tobacco. This is not a partisan issue, people. This is a bill that all pipe smokers in the US should be concerned with.

TAD is striking all over the US. Not only is this by far the best time to stock up, but it means that merchant supplies are running low, and shipping is delayed. While it might make sense to not "make a run on the bank" in this atmosphere, it makes more sense to buy as much as you can. If nothing else, it will help support the pipe community. Your orders now could help keep a business open later, if H.R. 4439 passes. (NOTE: Don't always rely on a business' shopping cart system to tell you if a tobacco is in stock. Some of them are up-to-date, but some of them aren't. The telephone is the safest route. You should be able to place a call to any online tobacconist.)
